I sure enjoyed my years at MVH. I had tons of friends and miss many of them. I am still in town AND still at MVH. I have taught computer art for one semester and return often as a substitute. I may be teaching math there. Imagine, being able to work and teach at the same HS you went to. Its very rewarding AND its amazing to see the kids from Parents that I attended school with. It might be good to talk about Parents as Alumni who have their kids taking the same path. Talk about true IB Locals! Would very much enjoy contact from those who remember me. I am writing this in the loving memory of my little sister and best friend, Malinda Dalmas- Ambach, who we tragically and so abruptly lost on Monday, Nov.26th,2007.She had been enjoying one of the many activies in her life...riding her motorcycle. Lindy was riding home from Julian on the evening of Sunday, Nov.25th. She was in an accident and taken by Life- Flight to Scripp's Mercy Trauma Center. By Monday morning, Lindy had passed away. I just want to say a few words about my sister, Shawna Hansen-Davis, class of '85, who passed away on Feb. 21st. Shawna had many friends and loved ones. It was very touching to see so many people at her funeral. She was born in Chula Vista and grew up in I.B. At MVHS she was a cheerleader and was also involved in dance chore. Shawna was the kindest, most beautiful person in the world. She always put others before herself. She was born with a heart defect but you wouldn't know it as she was always happy and full of life. When we were kids she liked to participate in the March of Dimes walk-a-thon to raise money for children with birth defects. Shawna was all about family. She left behind a wonderful husband and two young children that were everything to her. We miss her greatly. I have set up a bank account for her children. SCHLOTTE, JAMES F. James F. Schlotte passed away on Monday, February 5, 2007. He was born July 15, 1949 to Harvey and Norma Schlotte in Roswell, New Mexico. He graduated from Mar Vista High School in 1968 and attended Southwestern Junior College. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering with honors from San Diego State University where he was a member of the engineering fraternity, Tau Beta Pi. Jim worked at North Island Naval Air Station 35 years from August 1971 until his retirement February 1, 2007 as a Supervisory Electronics Engineer. Jim was Employee of the Year in 1997. In May 2003 Jim was appointed NAVAIR Associate Fellow and NAVAIR Fellow in April 2005. He received the Meritorious Civilian Service Award, the US Navy's highest civilian award in June 2006. Jim was recognized as a Subject Matter Expert in many specialties. As supervisory Engineer he oversaw projects in Japan, England, Spain and Egypt. He received many international awards for his work in the field of state-of-the-art aviation maintenance for F/A-18 and numerous other military aircraft. Jim served for many years as Vice President of the PESO, the Professional Engineers and Scientist's Organization. In his free time Jim enjoyed mentoring high school students in math and science, working with teams of students in robot competitions. He coached his son's AYSO soccer team and was an avid bicycle rider, often riding a hundred and fifty miles in a day. Jim regularly donated blood to the San Diego Blood Bank. Jim is survived by his wife, Wedad, his son, Benjamin; his mother, Norma Kruse; his brothers Bob and Jack Schlotte and many other family and friends. Jim Schlotte was a brilliantly remarkable, successful and courageous person who cared about human kind and exhibited exceptional brotherly love for everyone he knew. He will be sorely missed. Still in IB - Happily married 10 years to Jim Lovell, Class of 68. 35 years at North Island. BS in Business Mgt 2007, entering master's program. Deliriously happy! My brothers Dave, Bob, Larry still in San Diego. Mom is 87. I'm 54 and shocked I'm not 17 anymore but still having a great time! We were delighted to find old friend Trellis Hicks here recently. Also, we visited the new Veteran's Park brick project - fun to see other names from Mar Vista. We followed suit and had 10 family bricks placed for the Lyon, Lovell, Hiles and McDonald and Cochran families - all with children from Mar Vista, mostly late 60's. We're right next to the Rally's display. One of our bricks was a memory brick for Donna Anzaldi and Ernie Esparza, both of Class of '70. Donna died in a snowmobile accident soon after she was out of school and married. I bought her dad's house some time after - promised him to 'keep her spirit alive.' Ernie Esparza was a friend who drowned at the mouth - a member of our old school group of friends including Luis Vizcarra, Gordie Abernathie, Thad Adams, Jim Carroll, Sherri Lehman, Nancy Wesson and others. I spoke to Francisco Mondragon(89) a day before I left to Iraq he ran into my sister and gave her his card so I called and we talked about old times for a while. I am married to a very wonderful woman and have been for a long time, we have two kids Crista 14 and Julian 16. I live in Harker Heights, Texas and work for General Dynamics Land Systems on Fort Hood. I am currently in Camp Taji, Iraq doing my part to support the troops.
