MAR VISTA HIGH SCHOOL ICON

 THE ANCHOR

The Anchor was removed from the front of our school sometime in the mid 1990's.
I came back to IB in 2001 and discovered our cherished anchor had been removed
I've been on a mission-crusade ever since to have it restored to it's regal, historical location

Here is some of the email history of my effort (by me and other alumni). I'm afraid my passion and temper has gotten in the way of my success.

But there has been a recent change in Mar Vista High School Administration.
I have been pleading my case again.. more delicately and more diplomatically this time. And so for all the signs are positive... stay tuned.

JANUARY 29, 2010

Our Anchor was removed from the front of the school, some time in the mid '90s. And as you know, I have been on a 11 year mission to get it restored to the front of the school in the same display/configuration it was for over 45 years.

I had an agreement with Prinicpal Glenda Golobay to restore the anchor to the front of the school. I found out yesterday that Ms Golobay retired and there is a new principal... Wesley Braddock.

I had a meeting with Mr Broaddock today to re-affirm the school's commitment to restore the anchor. However, according to the Sweetwater Maintenance Dept. they will ONLY move the anchor to the front of the school.... they don't do "restoration" (beautification).. that has to be done by the school.

Mr. Braddock told me he cant use school or bond money to do that. The only thing he can do is make a request to the "Student Senate" to provide or help with the financing for the "beautification" of the anchor.

So.... I may have to ask for donations towards this project, from those of you that care about the restoration of the anchor.

Also.. the thought occurred to me that one of you might be in the construction business or an owner of a construction business that could donate the labor and materials.. or give a discount for the work. If you, or somebody you know, might be of help. I would love to hear from you.

At this time, there is no scheduled date for the relocation of the anchor to the front of the school. It's in the queue. I will keep you advised as I find out more information.
