I believe that there should be clubs, fraternities, lodges, etc. where men can go to be with men and women can go to be with women. I see nothing wrong with men only and women only clubs, lodges, etc. I think it has something to do with tax laws that apply to Elks, Eagles, Moose lodges,etc. that require these entities to admit women and I think it's a shame. What's wrong with the sexes having places to go to be together and away from the opposite sex? Okay, lay it on me.

Message	Fame & fortune have caused many people in all kinds of work/professions to be shortsighted, it's human nature to live in the moment if the moment is good. Let's not forget that many sports figures have also contributed heavily to the community they reside in or have started foundations to help various vulnerable populations. I don't subscribe to it always being altruistic either, but if it does some good, it should be recognized. Pete Rosel started a realty license and property investment business years ago for ex-football players, in an effort to give some of them an opportunity to be successful after football. I don't if it worked out well for many or not, Chris Nosworthy turned a few guys onto it when I knew him in Idaho years ago, and thought it was a great idea. He BTW, runs a great little bar & grill in Coeur d' Alene, filled with NFL nostalgia and Rams related paraphernalia. I think the guys who blow it biggest in the NFL would blow it big in anything else they did too.

Message	What a shame. The problem is their lives have been too easy. In high school they're the big man on campus, in college they're the superstar with everything thrown their way, i.e. cars, women, money. They get to the NFL and they think it's never going to end, why should it, all they have ever known is success and praise. They can't fathom anything else like age, injury or somebody better than them. I'm sure most of them are blindsided when their careers come to an end and they're forced to deal with life without fame, a job and the big income. It must be extremely difficult.

Some years ago I heard Saun Salisbury say on the radio that NFL teams provide free of chatge the finest financial counseling that money can buy. Who attends? The four or five guys that are already investing instead of buying toys. He told of seeing players that were just barely hanging on, close to being cut, getting into their expensive cars after practice instead of attending the meetings. And these guys attended colleges at taxpayers expense.

I was told 12 years ago by (3) doctors in a hospital room that if I did not quit drinking I would be dead AT 50. Well, I turn 55 on August 18th. In the past 12 years I have been rewarded with the most beautiful life anyone could imagine, Professionally, personally, and spiritually. Message	There are many times I whish I wasn't a drinker. But there are many more times that I love drinking. I freely admit, and have said/posted, many times on all these boards, that I am an ALCOHOLIC!! With that said.. I'm ok with anybody calling me an "alcoholic".. but what will "get my back up" though.. is someone calling my a "drunk". Because I distinguish between an alcoholic and a drunk. I don't consider myself as a "drunk". There are many, many alcoholics (like BW) who don't take a sip of alcohol.. then there are those that I see as "drunks". A drunk to me, is a person who's alcoholism negatively affects his life.. like, he cant hold a job, he destroys his relationships and his finances, etc. My father died of alcoholism. Maybe I will too. I'm not saying alcoholism DOESN'T cause problems.. cuz it does, and has for me. BUT, I don't feel like alcoholism has caused me any more problems then most people have that DON'T DRINK. We all get/have problems. Some people can cope.. others cant. I think genetics is the deciding factor. Oh well.. I'm on "rum n coke" #5.. so what do I know.. LOL

Message	Demons. We all live with them. Some appear to others to be minor but to the person suffering they are not. My demon was alcohol, And a worse comparison cannot be made. When I was six years old my father riding with his drunk brother was in a car accident that left him a quadriplegic for the last 7 years of his life. Alcohol was not in my house or around my house. The very first drink I ever took was the day I turned 21 and got drafted. Had that only been my last one. For the next 4 decades I drank. I don't know how Barb put up with me. Oh I went to work everyday, brought that pay check home. The last 10 years at Greyhound I never missed a scheduled work day. When Barb was dying she only asked 2 things of me. One was to take care of her sons which everyone who knows me knows that I have and the second is to stop drinking. I did quit. For about 2 hours it seemed. One of the reasons I retired from the trolley was because it interfered with my drinking. It got to the point where on my days off I would start by 8am and be toasted by 10am. IN fact sad as it is one of my sons who never saw me without a drink in my hand told me one day DAD why don't you just quit playing and drink yourself to death. What an eye opener that was. My own son telling me I was living daily breaking the two promises I had made to Barbara. On Aug 24 2008 I told my self that today is the last day I am going to drink. The next day was a birthday for one of my trolley friends that definitely involved drinking. I went to the party and did not have anything. Now 3/12 years later not one sip of anything has crossed my lips. Now I am not in no way bragging for even after all that time it is still a daily struggle. But I am lucky. I have a GREAT loving family and more friends than I deserve. Yesterday I had the surgery done on my left eye (I could no longer see out of it.) Both Monday and Tuesday friend after friend called and offered to take me,wait for me and bring me home. My son (above did it all for me). If I were to ever be ready to take that drink I know I can pick up that phone and have a dozen friends be there for me in a NY second. When I tell you over and over on this site I have been Blessed I am not speaking of any religious stuff even though God is in my heart and life every second of every day. I just wish Jr. Seau would have been as blessed as I am. And vic I love you BROTHER, For I know a little of the demons you have carried and are carrying every day. My phone # is 619-656-3669. 24/7

After successfully hosting the College World Series for over 50 years here in Omaha, the city was told by the NCAA to either build a new stadium downtown or they would take their business elsewhere. The NCAA donated some money but the new stadium was built maily at the expense of the city's taxpayers. And the Omaha Royals (farm team to the Kansas City Royals), which the stadium was built for in the first place, was left out of the deal. They couldn't afford the upkeep of the old Rosenblatt Stadium without outside revenue produced by the College World Series, so they had to tear down the old stadium and build a smaller one out on the edge of Southwest Omaha. They do have the goll to demand the outrageous "or else." I wish we would have called their bluff.

Message	I saw a PDF from around 2006 showing Mar Vista High had a total number of about 2200 students that year. When I graduated, we probably had close to 1800 total. I graduated in the late '80s. Senior year, my class had about 267 students, but each class was significantly larger with each year with the freshman class being much bigger than ours. The reason I saw for the huge growth was probably a combination of things. To me the biggest reason at the time was that San Ysidro had so many kids but no high school. In 85, Southwest was beyond capacity with their own as well as the Southwest Jr. and SYMS kids. I'm pretty sure that Mar Vista had 2 or 3 buses that went to San Ysidro. Mar Vista High's boundary also expanded due to Southwest's population explosion. I believe south of Coronado Ave. Mar Vista's boundary pushed over about a half mile east in 86. Southwest had in fact tried to force a signficant number of freshmen over to Mar Vista for their sophomore year. I would assume that this affected Montgomery as well. I recall around that time period, CIF had pushed Southwest and Montgomery to the large school conference. San Ysidro having their own high school likely took a lot of that pressure off the other high schools. I recall about 6 or 7 years ago, one of the newspapers referred to Southwest as one of the smaller public high schools in San Diego. I don't keep close tabs on these things, but it's looked like in the last 20 years, MV's total school population can fluctuate between 1400 and 2000, with the trend not always being upward.

I exchange e-mails with an old childhood friend back there. It's a small town and their grad number has remained fairly constant at 125-145 over the years. In '56 we graduated 83 as I recall. At that time MV served an area that is currently served by four high schools. MV currently has 1775 students in four grades so they probably will grad about 400. Multiply that by four and that 83 has expanded to nearly 1600 in 56 years in the same geographical area. Those little towns in the midwest just don't grow or change. That's what makes them so much fun to visit years later.

Message	Oh KP I went to last nights game. It was a comic carousel. We made errors but even had plays that could have been errors were it not for a forgiving score keeper. I know it is only day two but my oh my. Headley will want a good contract. He really should pay the Padres as an apprentice. The announcers always talk about his taking the pitch count to the max but he still fails time after time. Why not take 3 swings and sit down and you wont be any more of an embarrassment. I admit the Dodgers do have some really good pitchers. Kershaw and Billingsly are both really good. In todays paper it talked about the 38 pitch inning by Fereri. Said he had no second pitch and they had 11 foul balls off his fastball. But it was still a good pitch where as Volquez threw 34 pitches in one inning and couldn't hit the plate. Throw strikes and you have a chance. Walk four batters in an inning you are asking for it.

Message	WRT, good points and I think there's a grey area that will always need to be in the game. These are full contact sports. But at some point a line has to be drawn. It's one thing to make a plan to constantly rush a QB and see how many times they can legally get him on the grass to see if that wears him down or throws him off. A good clean hit on a receiver downfield might make him think twice before that next reception. But I do think it's reasonable to not encourage or financially reward players to injure another. It may be a matter of those objecting reading certain things between the lines. The next day he says that he did it but he was flipping off a spectator who was giving him a hard time and he apologized. He added that it was his idea to come forward with the apology. Tonight on the news his coach was interviewed. The coach said he saw it happen on a video and that he advised Franklin to apologize while on the plane enroute SD. After seeing State's players pregame bush league dance routines during player introductions last year I have wished them to lose ever since. Can you imagine Coach John Wooden allowing such antics? Message	Henry hit the real benefit of a pro football team in a city, that it enhances the quality of life for NFL fans in that city. I personally think it's a lot like buying that classic car. You don't really need it. In 99% of cases, it's not even an investment. It's an expense, but one you're willing to pay because it adds something to your life. Given the debt the city or county would accrue as a result of building a new stadium, possibly doing a Moores type deal where the city spends money acquiring property via eminent domain outside the actual stadium site to allow for redevelopment (the proceeds of which went to Moores), the city probably takes a major financial hit that hosting a Super Bowl won't likely negate. I'm not sure what kind of deal the Chargers would insist upon, ie exclusive use, no Aztec games, no monster truck or dirt bike races, no soccer games, etc. There are probably better ways to spend money investing in tourist attractions, the Convention Center being one example. But in the end, I like the Chargers. I'm for keeping them if we can find a viable plan to make it happen. Hopefully other voters think the same.

Mr. Fabiani, the Chargers mouthpiece, has already admitted that to finance a new stadium it will require "REGIONAL" cooperation. Translation: the other cities and county government will have to chip in. If I'm not mistaken they want it on the ballot next year. I really don't think it will pass whether SD goes it alone or everyone in the county votes. I guess I shouldn't be so negative about the issue as I don't really care what SD does as long as Chula Vista does not get involved.

I really don't think that those 50,000 spend an average of $6000, let alone $10,000. It has been written may times that a football team is not an attraction that enhances tourism.

I believe SD taxpayers pay something like $500,000 per year for maintenance on Qualcomm. The SD taxpayers also paid for that Chargers training facility north of the stadium.

I apologize to all if my original wording was misleading but I stand with the professor/economist on the subject. Remember, people only stay for a few days and the "jolt" is only the amount spent that is in excess of what would normally be spent. Let's say 50,000 people come to town for the game. They would have to spend $6,000 each to give the economy a 300 million jolt. For a 500 million jolt they would have to spend $10,000 each. I believe that an economist/ professor at a university has far more credibility than the money hungry NFL.

I believe that taxing investments at a lower rate than wages is a good thing. So, get off that horse. Also, according to the radio last week they made $31,000,000 last year. When they use the word "competitive" they mean they want their profit margin to be competitive.

Message	I agree with you except for the word "unfortunately." I see nothing unfortunate about soccer never catching on here. Here are some possible reasons: There are no statistics. It's hard to tell who is a good player and who isn't. What's with those silly colored cards? There are no plays as in football. There doesn't appear to be any strategy. How about all those fake injuries to draw one of those silly colored cards? Not enough scoring. Geeze, 2-1 is a real barn burner. Al that time kicking the ball around and then a stupid shootout(or whatever they call it) to determine the winner. A shootout is the same as flipping a coin as the goalie guesses one direction and the shooter guesses one direction. Pure chance, flip a coin, save time. Now, that having been said I think it's a great game for people playing it. You have to be in great shape to do all that running and be talented with your feet. It's really great for young kids as the ball is constantly moving and nobody ever seems to make a mistake or error. Nobody is ever embarrassed. I'd rather spend 30 minutes in a dentists chair than an hour watching soccer.

Message	I'm not a big enough fan to put this on the gripe board...but I have an observation on World Cup soccer. I've watched the US play in the last two or three cups and I noticed something I consider pretty stupid. This is THE most popular sport in the world. People in some countries kill each other over it. But NO ONE, except the head referee, knows when the damn game will end! Not the fans, not the broadcasters, not even the players! Here's the deal. Whenever there's an injury or any stoppage of play the scoreboard clock keeps running. But the head ref has a secret clock, either in his pocket or in his head, and HE ALONE decides how much time will be added on to the end of the game to make up for SOME of the stoppages! Talk about an invitation to corruption! It's SO ridiculous! When the time starts running out you hear the broadcasters speculating on how much, if any, time the ref will add. THIS IS SOOOOO STOOOOOPID! I can only guess that the regular soccer going on worldwide is the same moronic way. What other timed sport in the history of athletics has ever made the remaining time a mystery to the players, etc.? Why not just have the ref order the scoreboard clock stopped during injuries and then everyone will know. I guess that would make too much sense for these international idiots to embrace. Thank God for American football!

Message	What a difference a few days can make. Earlier this week the weather was incredibly warm (70 degrees). Today, I woke up to about 4-5 inches of snow on the ground and approx. aother 4-7 inches to go before it's over. We really needed the moisture so can't complain too loudly. It's the wet, sticky kind of snow which clings tightly to everything, creating a perfect winter wonderland picture. It's beautiful. The woods behind our house look incredible with the layers of snow hanging on the branches. There isn't a lot of wind either (which has kept this from turning int a blizzard) so there's nothing to blow the snow off of whatever it touches. It's even piled high on the deck railing. If we do get some wind, it's gonna get nasty but for now I'm going to make a cup of coffee, open the blinds in the sunroom and enjoy the show.

The league doesn't give a damn about the welfare of the taxpayers or the fiscal condition of any city or county. The team and Santa Clara received a $850 Million LOAN two months ago that will ALMOST cover the cost of the BILLION DOLLAR stadium. Notice "LOAN" in both cases! Just yesterday in the UT Fabiani announced that the Chargers have changed their tactics. They now want a county-wide stadium vote as they know full well that it will not pass solely in San Diego. Message	I have spinach plants this time, too. Sorry there's no avocados at this time but there are tomato plants. I planted a loquat tree a few months ago and it is really thriving. I had one by the beach before and it did very well, sometimes having many hundreds of fruits on it. The flavor is really good and they make good juice too. The seeds have dramatic iridescent colors. You won't see this fruit in stores as I think it doesn't lend itself to commercialization. I highly recommend this tree to all in our area.

Message	We had a lot of fun with those Perry boys. Sometimes we would catch big sacks of grunion and their mom would bread and deep fry them for us all. We used to take our guns and walk to the Border Patrol range where the Vista Terrace pool is now. Sometimes there would be more than 10 of us, all armed to the teeth as they say. So the cops and Border Patrol guys would come along and see us and stop to give us a ride over there. Now days they'd have to call out the swat team. What a life we had! Kids don't have the chance for stuff like that anymore.

Message	I remember that building behind the backstop at what we refered to as the COMMUNITY CENTER. They used to have Sat matinees there back in 48-50. Jim Perry (57) lived in the green stucco house facing Coronado Ave. next to the ball field. As you said there were very tall Eucalyptus trees on the north side of Coronado Ave. west from the ball field. Bea Emery (57) lived in what appeared to be a turn of the century two story house on the north side of Coronado at about 15th. There were also tall Eucalyptus trees on the east side of 17th north of Coronado Ave. That would be at the west end of the Marian football field. Nice memories.

Message	Yeah, that's the place. There was just fields to the south and east then except for St Charles. Down in those southern fields there were all sorts of old military airplanes for along time and we would ride our bikes over there and check them out some times. Where the Pizza Hut is now was a pretty big pond. Down where 14th street is now, was a nearly year round stream going straight down where the street is now, that went south to those apartments. There was a mangrove swamp there then instead of apartments. We thought those apartments were doomed because there were year round springs there. There had been a canal there where 14th street is now, that was washed out in the great flood of 1916. And before that it was a mouth of the TJ river that ran into the bay. Coronado Ave. had really tall Eucalyptus trees all along the way. There were some gigantic birds up in those tress whose droppings could cover the street in a single splat. My friend Don Ternyila got a really nice Alfa Romeo convertible back then and almost the first day he had it, he had the top down and those d. birds got him a direct hit. We had to garden hose the heck out of it before he could even start cleaning that car. Whatever kind of birds they were, they were really big. Standing on the ground they were like 6 feet high. Once when I was working at the park in '62 or '63 I heard screaming outside the office and ran out to find one standing by a lady and her very little baby licking it's chops looking at that baby. I chased it off with a baseball bat. Sometimes I wonder if scientists even know about whatever kind of bird that was. Old timers told me they were known as some kind of native to this area.

Message	We lived by the old park from 58 and Maybe that was one of the official battle grounds or something. I started working there in 1960 I think, and we had dances on weekends and then sometimes there would be huge fights outside in the park. It seems like it was real foggy more then so we could see groups running around in and out of view out there. That raggedy old park building was tougher than it looked cause a couple times they would attack the building and not get in. BW maybe didn't see some of this cause his sainted mom had enough sense to keep him away from the rest of us dummies too dumb to be be somewhere else. My excuse was that I got paid $1.25/hr to be there.

Message	Coach Filson coached football at Southwestern College after he left Mar Vista. I have not seen Coach Filson but did run into Coach Milke when I was coaching at Southwestern and also at a San Diego Hall of Champions banquet. Also ran into Mr. Torres at another Hall of Champions banquet. Coach Milke's son George was the principal of Marian High School until it relocated, and is now the principal of Mater Dei High School in eastern Chula Vista.

Message	Now I remember where I've seen Bud Milke's name. He was a teacher/coach at Southwestern College when I went there. His name was all over that class schedule. I never had him, but I think I had Filson as a coach there. I didn't know they had been at Mar Vista.

Message	Just another dramatic and very big win for the Aztecs last night beating New Mexico in the home court known for good reason as "THE PIT", including their 18,000 screaming fans. NM was 15-2 going into the game and had beaten a lot of really good teams. They have been considered to be a better team than the Aztecs. NM jumped out to a 10-0 lead quickly but State came roaring back to beat then 75-70, at one point outscoring them 62-39 over 30 minutes and with a 15-0 run. Following their last win over a very highly regarding UNLV the Aztecs seem certain to climb above their current number 16 ranking. And this is a rebuilding year! GO AZTECS.

Message	The "calmness" at MV was a direct result of the good work by Bud Milke, Art Filson, Myron Smull, Mr. Newell and a whole host of other people we owe a lot to from our formative years. Working at the old park all hours of the day and night I got a first hand look at what was lurking just below the surface around here. Several times the fighting got so wild outside the building that we had barricaded ourselves in the building, putting heavy furniture against the doors to block them, and the windows, etc. A couple times 30 or 40 car loads of guys, numbering hundreds of guys would show up looking for fights in broad daylight. Their excuse for the baseball bats nearly everyone carried was that they were looking to play a little over the line, etc. Also the way they chased all of us jumping across backyard fences from the park was a big clue, too. Then there was the couple times there were really big gang fights at the school. We had ball team that played games in Logan Heights in those days. Those really hard core guys over there always treated us with respect. The coaches over there said they had heard that IB was a place where people were a lot tougher than most would expect. It didn't hurt that we took them on and beat them with guys who even played barefoot at times in Hawaian shirts with straws hats and beat them. Those black guys couldn't get over it that we had less than them. There were a lot of really great people here though, so don't get me wrong. IB has always been a place where the people are the salt of the earth.

Message	I agree. I didn't even know what 'Mary Jane' was until a laborer in Tijuana explained it to me. Also, back in the 50's, being caught with 'Mary Jane' could get you 2-5 in the pen. Not a good choice. Booze was the choice and many a bar fight occurred because of alcohol in Palm City, IB, San Ysidro and Chula Vista. For the most part and unlike today, the fights were at least fair. Every day now, someone is stabbed or shot AFTER SOME "WORDS TO PISS ONE OFF' or other altercations beginning with the drink of choice, ALCOHOL.

Of course that was before the drug culture. I can honestly say that I knew nobody taking drugs at MV or at SW College in the early 50s.

Message	Yes Bud Milke was the basketball coach and did some other sports too till the end of 63 I think. He was over at Castle Park the next year when they had "Rip" Barret, so called for the sound of the ball swishing through the next on many of his shots. They were a new school and battled MV with all of Milke ex-players for the Metro League title. I remember my brother holding Barret to 2 points in a classic match up between the schools that year. Guys from MV around that time have some great "Milke stories". I remember him telling me and Vic '64', when we showed up hung over one time, that we were "dissipating." It was like having King Kong bend over and look you in the eye and then say a fancy word. And then all you can say is "yes sir Mr. Kong."

Message	About Bud Milke. Bud was a standout Antigo athlete during World War II and graduated when the war was winding down. Standing 6-5, he played end on the football team and forward on the basketball squad. He was named second team All-Wisconsin Valley Conference end in 1944. Most of his teammates are no longer with us but a few are still around. Among them are Donald Hoeft, Bob Jesse and John Lapinski, who I'm told plans to attend the reunion. Another is Jerry Filbrandt, who still lives in Antigo. The late Clete Listle, Tuffy Listle and Dewey Johnson were also teammates. Milke was a leader on a couple of Antigo's top basketball teams and was the Valley scoring champion in 1944-45. During his junior and senior years, the Red Robins compiled a 20-4 league record. A Journal sportswriter labeled him the backbone of the team. Following graduation from AHS, Milke joined the Army and after his stint in the service, he enrolled at San Diego State University, where he was an outstanding end on the football team. He lettered for three years and set a pass catching record at San Diego State. He also starred in basketball at the university. For 41 years he was a teacher and coached both football and basketball at various schools in California before retiring in 1993. He was inducted into the Southwest College Hall of Fame. His children inherited his athletic and coaching talents. His three sons and one of his two daughters are teachers and coaches. Something that makes Bud special is that he hasn't forgotten his roots. He says he still has fond memories of growing up and playing sports in Antigo. His interest in AHS athletics prompted our communications. When he inquired about Antigo sports history, the Journal referred him to me and I supplied him with the historical data, for which he was very grateful. By the way, he is the newest member of the Gridiron Club.

Nearly every game is already sold out for the rest of the season and the fans go wild. Message	When the Broncos came back to beat the Chargers in the latter half of the season, I actually found myself rooting for the Broncos and Tebow. Though I think largely because I think the team and management needed a serious wake up call. I would like to see Tebow succeed though. This is a guy that didn't have the benefit of a pre-season, none of the usual off-season prep for that matter. He wasn't the starter at the beginning of the season, so he wasn't taking a lot of snaps. He came in off the bench after a newly acquired QB didn't pan out and gave the team a spark of life. He's physically talented, I think he could be a decent passer once he's gotten some experience and a pre-season to work with the receivers and timing a lot more. That was a hell of a pass to win the game, hell of a run by the receiver too. So far, he seems to be a decent guy. Hopefully his faith isn't all show. But refreshing to see a player getting attention for reasons other than committing crimes.

Message	You can tell that from his lousy record of picking the winners each week. The other writer in the UT destroyed him. That O line was the main reason we lost 6 in a row. Rivers couldn't stay on his feet long enough to find a receiver. AND that defensive line couldn't stop butter on a cold day. As far as de-backs Jammer should have already been a strong safety. Weddle and Jammer might make a pretty good team back there.

Message	Nick Canepa, in this morning's paper, rating the Chargers, gave their offensive line an "A" grade for their season. That is just pathetic. Their O-line had a terrible year! It was one of the main reasons the team had a bad year! Canepa is another one of those so called experts who can't tell who can play the game and what is happening on the field.

Message	A little research revealed that LT was a Charger captain for at least nine years. However, I agree with Dave, there's a HUGE difference between a guy pouting on the sidelines because he's too injured to play and one moping around on the field because he's not getting the ball. I'm in LT's corner on this one. In any case, I don't much mind turmoil among the Jets. They're rapidly emerging from the knot of teams I'm indifferent to and joining the few I seriously dislike.

Message	L.T. was a team captain for the Chargers offense for at least one season. I would imagine at least one season during the Brees years. I know for sure he was one season with Rivers. I have no idea where his head is as far as his run in San Diego. Much to be proud of, and quite reasonably so. Perhaps he has regrets? Hard to say. While he's never been one to overly brag like some superstars, he certain does have the superstar mentality in other ways. His public reactions to adversity and losses have not always been the perfect picture of "classy" despite his claims otherwise. When he left, some of his team mates spoke out about his behavior they found bothersome. I don't know if that lingers in his thoughts today, or whether he denies any of that could be real or justified. If he looks back and finds things he regrets about his time here when he was definitely one of the leaders, then I could see his comments being quite genuine. He's been there and done that to some degree. I don't think I'd compare him directly to how Santonio Holmes ended his season. It took an injury to make LT get benched and sulk. Maybe not the ideal reaction to adversity. But Holmes was reportedly such a negative presence, even in the huddle, that it sounded like his team mates wanted him off the field immediately. I can't say LT was exactly like that. But I could see some parallels being drawn. If LT had said "been there, done that" to bad attitude making team mates question your presence on the team, then offered some advice as a veteran, a young player would do well to take it from someone with personal experience. It might be crappy that Holmes is getting called out in public like that, where LT wasn't until long after the fact. But for a guy that could see his career go nowhere fast, maybe it's what Holmes needs before he ends up a player that no team wants to do business with.

Hacksaw, he of the very large ego and mouth, said today that he had received something like 80 e-mails and phone calls from people saying they are not going to renew their season tickets. I don't believe even 10 of them will actually do it. Reasons: 1. They are football fans and they are used to going to games on Sunday. 2. They won't take a chance on losing their seats that they have had and are used to. 3. They won't take the chance that the team just might be good next year and, if so, they won't have good seats and will have to compete for seats.

Message	I wonder what the cost effectiveness is against a very skeptical fan base. San Diego isn't like some of the other markets where a team can sell out games, when when sporting a losing streak. This is three straight mediocre seasons where fans will likely want to see some proof the new season will yield different results before selling out Qualcomm stadium. But it may be smart in the sense that Dean Spanos and company have made a lot of questionable management decisions over the last 20 years.
