THAT WAS BEFORE THEY BECAME THE AAA Dodgers. Hardly any one you ever heard of started last Eithier is about all they have left of the varsity. Kp I can't understand all these injureios. I know back in the day you played through pain. Wally Pipp proved that. I know (I think) there were days you went out there without your best stuff. But golly today studs are falling by the way side faster than the French army.

Was watching Strauburg run and am convinced the only way he could score from second is if the batter hit a TRIPLE. Getting to the point where it almost takes adding the total averages of 3 Padres to average what Tony did alone. I do feel this I would have others than Hudson and Bartlet play and LEARN.
Read recently where some one said the Padres had the best minor league system. HECK YES how many other clubs play their Triple A team in the majors. What happened to Maybin. OMG! Headley, Venebal and Hundley proving their worth day in and out.

What a shame. The problem is their lives have been too easy. In high school they're the big man on campus, in college they're the superstar with everything thrown their way, i.e. cars, women, money. They get to the NFL and they think it's never going to end, why should it, all they have ever known is success and praise. They can't fathom anything else like age, injury or somebody better than them. I'm sure most of them are blindsided when their careers come to an end and they're forced to deal with life without fame, a job and the big income. It must be extremely difficult.

That's where I got my info too (ESPN).
The two studies do not conflict with each other.
Some years ago I heard Saun Salisbury say on the radio that NFL teams provide free of chatge the finest financial counseling that money can buy. Who attends? The four or five guys that are already investing instead of buying toys. He told of seeing players that were just barely hanging on, close to being cut, getting into their expensive cars after practice instead of attending the meetings.
And these guys attended colleges at taxpayers expense.

There are many times I whish I wasn't a drinker. But there are many more times that I love drinking.
I freely admit, and have said/posted, many times on all these boards, that I am an ALCOHOLIC!!
With that said.. I'm ok with anybody calling me an "alcoholic".. but what will "get my back up" though.. is someone calling my a "drunk". Because I distinguish between an alcoholic and a drunk. I don't consider myself as a "drunk".
There are many, many alcoholics (like BW) who don't take a sip of alcohol.. then there are those that I see as "drunks". A drunk to me, is a person who's alcoholism negatively affects his life.. like, he cant hold a job, he destroys his relationships and his finances, etc.
My father died of alcoholism. Maybe I will too. I'm not saying alcoholism DOESN'T cause problems.. cuz it does, and has for me. BUT, I don't feel like alcoholism has caused me any more problems then most people have that DON'T DRINK. We all get/have problems.
Some people can cope.. others cant. I think genetics is the deciding factor.
Oh well.. I'm on "rum n coke" #5.. so what do I know.. LOL

Demons. We all live with them. Some appear to others to be minor but to the person suffering they are not. My demon was alcohol, And a worse comparison cannot be made. When I was six years old my father riding with his drunk brother was in a car accident that left him a quadriplegic for the last 7 years of his life. Alcohol was not in my house or around my house. The very first drink I ever took was the day I turned 21 and got drafted. Had that only been my last one. For the next 4 decades I drank. I don't know how Barb put up with me. Oh I went to work everyday, brought that pay check home. The last 10 years at Greyhound I never missed a scheduled work day.
When Barb was dying she only asked 2 things of me. One was to take care of her sons which everyone who knows me knows that I have and the second is to stop drinking.
I did quit. For about 2 hours it seemed. One of the reasons I retired from the trolley was because it interfered with my drinking. It got to the point where on my days off I would start by 8am and be toasted by 10am. IN fact sad as it is one of my sons who never saw me without a drink in my hand told me one day DAD why don't you just quit playing and drink yourself to death. What an eye opener that was. My own son telling me I was living daily breaking the two promises I had made to Barbara.
On Aug 24 2008 I told my self that today is the last day I am going to drink. The next day was a birthday for one of my trolley friends that definitely involved drinking. I went to the party and did not have anything. Now 3/12 years later not one sip of anything has crossed my lips.
Now I am not in no way bragging for even after all that time it is still a daily struggle. But I am lucky. I have a GREAT loving family and more friends than I deserve. Yesterday I had the surgery done on my left eye (I could no longer see out of it.) Both Monday and Tuesday friend after friend called and offered to take me,wait for me and bring me home. My son (above did it all for me).
If I were to ever be ready to take that drink I know I can pick up that phone and have a dozen friends be there for me in a NY second. When I tell you over and over on this site I have been Blessed I am not speaking of any religious stuff even though God is in my heart and life every second of every day.
I just wish Jr. Seau would have been as blessed as I am. And vic I love you BROTHER, For I know a little of the demons you have carried and are carrying every day. My phone # is 619-656-3669. 24/7

In todays union an article of all the players the Padres could have drafted but didn't. But when you consider ALL the players who we did draft and develop and let get away it is criminal. Gotta be at least a good dozen of REAL quality players. And this team who can't make contact wants to move the fences in. MY oh MY. I am almost to the point of just plain writing them off. I am a homer and love the Aztecs, Chargers and Padres. And as bd as things get we finally get UCLA in basketball but this may be the best UCLA team in decades. OH well.

2-14 is the minimum each year. It would be good if they win 1st game of season and last of the season. This year they play Oaklanders on those dates. Any victories beyond those 2 are just icing on the cake.
I would really like a repeat of last years playoff denying victory over the Raiders on the season finale, with a score of 62-3.
Now that my loathing has been expressed. I'd like a 11-5 with a division lead and make it a little further into playoffs for a change. I expect 10-6

Unfortunately, they do have the goll to demand such things. After successfully hosting the College World Series for over 50 years here in Omaha, the city was told by the NCAA to either build a new stadium downtown or they would take their business elsewhere. The NCAA donated some money but the new stadium was built maily at the expense of the city's taxpayers. And the Omaha Royals (farm team to the Kansas City Royals), which the stadium was built for in the first place, was left out of the deal. They couldn't afford the upkeep of the old Rosenblatt Stadium without outside revenue produced by the College World Series, so they had to tear down the old stadium and build a smaller one out on the edge of Southwest Omaha. They do have the goll to demand the outrageous "or else." I wish we would have called their bluff.

In'56 there was MV, CV and SW and that was it in the So. Bay.
I think Hilltop was next. I know it existed in '59.

Well my friend.. it seems that you are NOT taking into consideration the geological/logistic significance of Mar Vista High School.
Mar Vista has a billion legal and illegal Messicans coming across the boarder to MV High School every year.
When I graduated in 1960 we had about 10% Messicans.. today, MV is prolly 95% Messicans. Trust me, the Messicans aren't coming from NEBRASKA!!
In other words.. I don't think you cant make a fair comparison. Go back to the drawing board brother.
In other words.. Michigan does NOT have same influx of students that our boarder town high school has.
You're mixing apples and avacados.

I don't know if the umpiring is lousy or not as I'm watching at home and the umpires are much closer to the action than I am.
Not being a conspiracy-type person I disagree that the games could be fixed. Too many people would have to be involved and people cannot keep a secret. Now if you could get 4-5 players involved in the fix they could possibly pull it off but they would be found out eventually for the same reason.
No doubt you are right about more money to be made if the big-market teams are involved in the WS.

After seeing them play a couple times they sure look like a minor league team.
Also the umpires continue to become even more pathetic. I saw one batter where the plate ump missed the call on every pitch.
Besides just about ruining the games sometimes, the incompetent umpiring situation opens the door to fixing the games.
How can you tell when a call is fake when they miss so many already?
If you think this isn't reasonable consider how Steinbrenner does things and how much money there is to be made if the "right teams" win or advance in the play-offs.
The fans and players deserve better than this!

Oh KP I went to last nights game. It was a comic carousel. We made errors but even had plays that could have been errors were it not for a forgiving score keeper. I know it is only day two but my oh my. Headley will want a good contract. He really should pay the Padres as an apprentice. The announcers always talk about his taking the pitch count to the max but he still fails time after time. Why not take 3 swings and sit down and you wont be any more of an embarrassment. I admit the Dodgers do have some really good pitchers. Kershaw and Billingsly are both really good. In todays paper it talked about the 38 pitch inning by Fereri. Said he had no second pitch and they had 11 foul balls off his fastball. But it was still a good pitch where as Volquez threw 34 pitches in one inning and couldn't hit the plate. Throw strikes and you have a chance. Walk four batters in an inning you are asking for it.

Since I circumferentially take up more space then JK.. I should get the biggest half.
The person who gets the biggest half should meet pie square to the tenth power. Well, unless we are talking about a cream pie.. then it's 1/2 divided by the angle north of the sun's latitude.. using a common denominator.

EXCELLENT point! You've found a situation where trying to knock them out of the game might conflict with winning. I'm impressed! Hopefully their want of a possible playoff appearance or even Superbowl ring would outweigh their desire for a few thousand extra dollars. Ken what about the Braun testing. As an ardent lover of the game I would hate to think someone escaped due to a technicality. I know that is usually how crooks get off. Not because they are innocent. We have few heroes any more and I would hate to think the sport got tainted. Also according to what I read he tested within range after requesting another evaluation. I thought they took two samples the first time in case they got a positive so they could have something to check in case of an error. Your opinion will be appreciated.

A very well thought out and sensible post as usual Dave.
I'll have to take issue with you on your comparing buying an expensive classic car to paying for a stadium. He who buys that car and only he pays for that car.
ALL the citizens of San Diego will pay for a new stadium and that includes those who don't give a damn about the Chargers and the vast majority of people who cannot afford to ever go to a game.
I agree that having a pro athletic team is a nice diversion from everyday life but I object to the cost and the arrogance of the NFL.

The 50,000 that I spoke of is the 50,000 that come to town for the Super Bowl. They only come for the Super Bowl and how often does a city get a SB? I really don't think that those 50,000 spend an average of $6000, let alone $10,000.
It has been written may times that a football team is not an attraction that enhances tourism.

I'm sorry but I disagree. I read recently that Seattle still owes $81,000,000 on the Kingdome which was torn down some 10 years ago.
I believe SD taxpayers pay something like $500,000 per year for maintenance on Qualcomm. The SD taxpayers also paid for that Chargers training facility north of the stadium.

There are many festivities and events in the week or more leading up to the Superbowl. These attract tens of thousands of visitors over and above the ticket holders on Super Sunday. The business benefit from the 50,000 you spoke of pretty much happens every home game during the season. Well, for those cities fortunate enough to have an NFL team that is.

I think you just have a "hard-on" for anybody, business or personal, who is rich.
Of course, the rich and powerful are your enemy. No matter that our country is based on MERIT, ENTREPRENEURSHIP, and the freedom to peruse happiness and prosperity for ALL.
Anybody that is RICH AND POWERFUL is to be viewed as the enemy... when the core of our constitution is the freedom for each and every American to prosper... on his own merit.
But you don't like the "merit" system do you?.. you much prefer the socialist system. Take from some and give to others.
Do you know how badly that system has failed in practice? Have you ever heard of the Soviet Union??... IT DON'T EXIST ANYMORE!!

If Walmart wants to put a store in your town, they need a permit. It wouldn't be unusual for them to bargain with the Mayor of the town... something like, "if you give me a permit and a tax break, I will put a store in your town and EMPLOY many of your citizens.. and pay taxes... do we have a deal???.. yeah or nay???
The Super Bowl, doesn't come to your town unless you have a proper venue... they aren't asking for any tax breaks.. they are just going to award a game to your facility. A facility that you have for the purpose of entertainment.
Do you want the game in your town?.. or not??... it's like saying, would you like 10,000 visitors to your library?.. Park?.. the Opera.. whatever?
I cant figure out what your problem is.. I mean your question/point.

You are absolutely right. The NFL claims that hosting the SB will give the local economy a 300 to 500 million "JOLT."
I apologize to all if my original wording was misleading but I stand with the professor/economist on the subject.
Remember, people only stay for a few days and the "jolt" is only the amount spent that is in excess of what would normally be spent.
Let's say 50,000 people come to town for the game. They would have to spend $6,000 each to give the economy a 300 million jolt. For a 500 million jolt they would have to spend $10,000 each.
I believe that an economist/ professor at a university has far more credibility than the money hungry NFL.

Though both Wal Mart and NFL owners want the public to support financially (through tax breaks or right offs) their opportunity to be billioaires at least Wal Mart hangs around long after the Super Bowl or MLB has moved on. AND Wal mArt workers pay taxes which is something the other try to get out of. Keeps your SS check comning in.

I don't understand the comparison?.. you are comparing Wal-Mart to the Super bowl?
Wal-Mart might be the biggest employer in the world (for mostly the poor/uneducated). The Super Bowl is a one shot deal (if you have a good stadium).
Wal-Mart brings in tax money... the Super Bowl brings in tourists and 100's and 100's of people associated with the NFL and and news organizations.. for a couple of weeks.
I'm not sure what your point is.. or the comparison.

I don't think the NFL claims a city will net $500 million in revenue. Only that a Superbowl will bring that much business into a city. Is it possible this professor has tried to twist their words for his NFL-hating sheep?

Locals can't get in because the businesses are stuffed with customers. All the money goes to the big chains? Where does it go on a normal day? I guess there's no reason for a city to even have big chain hotels and restaraunts. Unless you count the taxes taken by the city from every one of those dollars. Don't need credentials to know this is a hairbrained theory. He must hate the NFL as much as you. That's his ax to grind

Yes, I'm VERY critical of government, you are right about that but I have not criticized, the rich or big business. I believe that taxing investments at a lower rate than wages is a good thing. So, get off that horse.
I also believe that there is bad behavior across the economic board, but, unlike you, I don't belive that is an excuse for more bad behavior. Namely, allowing NFL teams to screw the taxpayers.
Here's three good reasons that NFL teams insist that cities pay for a major portion of stadiums:
1. They don't have to pay, therefore they make more money.
2. They know that in 30 to 40 years the place will have to be torn down and they don't want to pay for that.
3. Notice that they always say that the city will retain ownership. That way they don't have to pay property taxes on the place.
The Chargers lie when they say they must have a new stadium to be competitive. There's a salary cap, that holds expenses down. Also, according to the radio last week they made $31,000,000 last year. When they use the word "competitive" they mean they want their profit margin to be competitive.

Don't get me wrong.. I don't disagree with your statements... what irritates me is.. your blinders focus on GOVERNMENT AND BIG COMPANIES as the EVIL... like it's the ONLY evil.
There is bad behavior by YOUR class of citizens as well... while you point to the rich and powerful.. maybe you should consider taking a closer look at the average and UNPOWERFUL as well.
It seems to me, that there is no FAIRNESS in your view of evil and bad behavior. You solely focus on the RICH AND POWERFUL... hows about taking look in the mirror.. the mirror of "your own kind".

Please tell me how you would conduct your business.. so as not to make money at anybody else's expense... and how you would not take every advantage you could...

I agree with you except for the word "unfortunately." I see nothing unfortunate about soccer never catching on here.
Here are some possible reasons:
There are no statistics.
It's hard to tell who is a good player and who isn't.
What's with those silly colored cards?
There are no plays as in football.
There doesn't appear to be any strategy.
How about all those fake injuries to draw one of those silly colored cards?
Not enough scoring. Geeze, 2-1 is a real barn burner.
Al that time kicking the ball around and then a stupid shootout(or whatever they call it) to determine the winner.
A shootout is the same as flipping a coin as the goalie guesses one direction and the shooter guesses one direction. Pure chance, flip a coin, save time.
Now, that having been said I think it's a great game for people playing it. You have to be in great shape to do all that running and be talented with your feet. It's really great for young kids as the ball is constantly moving and nobody ever seems to make a mistake or error. Nobody is ever embarrassed.
I'd rather spend 30 minutes in a dentists chair than an hour watching soccer.

I'm not a big enough fan to put this on the gripe board...but I have an observation on World Cup soccer.
I've watched the US play in the last two or three cups and I noticed something I consider pretty stupid. This is THE most popular sport in the world. People in some countries kill each other over it. But NO ONE, except the head referee, knows when the damn game will end! Not the fans, not the broadcasters, not even the players!
Here's the deal. Whenever there's an injury or any stoppage of play the scoreboard clock keeps running. But the head ref has a secret clock, either in his pocket or in his head, and HE ALONE decides how much time will be added on to the end of the game to make up for SOME of the stoppages! Talk about an invitation to corruption!
It's SO ridiculous! When the time starts running out you hear the broadcasters speculating on how much, if any, time the ref will add. THIS IS SOOOOO STOOOOOPID! I can only guess that the regular soccer going on worldwide is the same moronic way. What other timed sport in the history of athletics has ever made the remaining time a mystery to the players, etc.? Why not just have the ref order the scoreboard clock stopped during injuries and then everyone will know. I guess that would make too much sense for these international idiots to embrace. Thank God for American football!

You know.. America is not much older then 200 years. Compared to Greece, Egypt, Rome (Italy) etc., etc. America is just a baby.
And.. America is not imperialistic... yet!!!... America is taking over the world by it's culture. YES, baby America has a culture. When you think of culture you think of all the ancient civilizations... not America.
Yet, America is conquering the world with movies, TV, music... Rock n Roll, Cowboys, Rap, Football, Basketball, English.. American English is being taught in almost every country in the world. Most other countries know that you have to speak American English if you want to reach the top.

The key word there KP is LOAN. The NFL only has it's own best interests in mind. The league doesn't give a damn about the welfare of the taxpayers or the fiscal condition of any city or county.
The team and Santa Clara received a $850 Million LOAN two months ago that will ALMOST cover the cost of the BILLION DOLLAR stadium.
Notice "LOAN" in both cases!
Just yesterday in the UT Fabiani announced that the Chargers have changed their tactics. They now want a county-wide stadium vote as they know full well that it will not pass solely in San Diego.
Oh those poor, poor NFL owners. How can they expect to survive and keep their millions without taxpayer assistance.

Signs warn beachgoers of shark sighting
By Sarah Grieco | Thursday, Jan 26, 2012 | Updated 10:02 AM PST
Imperial Beach resident Jeff Wallis took this photo of the great white shark.
A great white shark was spotted off the coast of Imperial Beach on Tuesday, according to city officials.
Lifeguards said the shark was spotted near Imperial Beach Boulevard at 9 a.m. A local took a picture of the sighting, and presented it to lifeguards.
The picture was then sent to a shark research facility, which confirmed the dorsal fin belonged to a great white. Researchers believe the shark photographed was between 16 and 18 feet.
The shark reportedly stayed in the area for a moment, then swam on.
"We haven't seen anything like this since the 1950's," said Lifeguard Capt. Robert Stabenow.
The beach is open, but signs warning people of the shark sighting have been placed throughout the beach.

Then when I got seated and the movie started there came this guy sitting next to me really too close. I would go and stay in the cry room and if yo were ever in there it had the squeakiest horrible sound. I stopped going alone after a while so I could enjoy the matinees. TARZAN RULED THEN. LOL

The Border Patrol range on Beyer Way? That's an awful long walk.
I remember going with Doug Shaw and Bill Basye to a point about where 905 and Heritage Road now intersect to shoot a rifle. Remember when Heritage was the only way to Otay mesa? That twisting, winding road is still there exactly the same as it was 60 years ago.

We had a lot of fun with those Perry boys. Sometimes we would catch big sacks of grunion and their mom would bread and deep fry them for us all.
We used to take our guns and walk to the Border Patrol range where the Vista Terrace pool is now. Sometimes there would be more than 10 of us, all armed to the teeth as they say. So the cops and Border Patrol guys would come along and see us and stop to give us a ride over there. Now days they'd have to call out the swat team.
What a life we had! Kids don't have the chance for stuff like that anymore.

I remember that building behind the backstop at what we refered to as the COMMUNITY CENTER. They used to have Sat matinees there back in 48-50.
Jim Perry (57) lived in the green stucco house facing Coronado Ave. next to the ball field. As you said there were very tall Eucalyptus trees on the north side of Coronado Ave. west from the ball field. Bea Emery (57) lived in what appeared to be a turn of the century two story house on the north side of Coronado at about 15th. There were also tall Eucalyptus trees on the east side of 17th north of Coronado Ave. That would be at the west end of the Marian football field.
Nice memories.

Yeah, that's the place. There was just fields to the south and east then except for St Charles. Down in those southern fields there were all sorts of old military airplanes for along time and we would ride our bikes over there and check them out some times. Where the Pizza Hut is now was a pretty big pond. Down where 14th street is now, was a nearly year round stream going straight down where the street is now, that went south to those apartments. There was a mangrove swamp there then instead of apartments. We thought those apartments were doomed because there were year round springs there. There had been a canal there where 14th street is now, that was washed out in the great flood of 1916. And before that it was a mouth of the TJ river that ran into the bay. Coronado Ave. had really tall Eucalyptus trees all along the way. There were some gigantic birds up in those tress whose droppings could cover the street in a single splat. My friend Don Ternyila got a really nice Alfa Romeo convertible back then and almost the first day he had it, he had the top down and those d. birds got him a direct hit. We had to garden hose the heck out of it before he could even start cleaning that car. Whatever kind of birds they were, they were really big. Standing on the ground they were like 6 feet high. Once when I was working at the park in '62 or '63 I heard screaming outside the office and ran out to find one standing by a lady and her very little baby licking it's chops looking at that baby. I chased it off with a baseball bat. Sometimes I wonder if scientists even know about whatever kind of bird that was. Old timers told me they were known as some kind of native to this area.

Iswn't that park that you are talking about used to be called the community center. I went to kindergarten there and played IB league baseball there. It's almost right behind your house right? well a little kitty cornered a bit. The park that ? is thinking was all corn fields back then. And I remember the gang fights with can openers and some chains. My brother Ron a couple of guys were attacked once when I was already gone in the army. So that would make it in the early '60s maybe '62 -'63

We lived by the old park from 58 and Maybe that was one of the official battle grounds or something. I started working there in 1960 I think, and we had dances on weekends and then sometimes there would be huge fights outside in the park. It seems like it was real foggy more then so we could see groups running around in and out of view out there. That raggedy old park building was tougher than it looked cause a couple times they would attack the building and not get in. BW maybe didn't see some of this cause his sainted mom had enough sense to keep him away from the rest of us dummies too dumb to be be somewhere else. My excuse was that I got paid $1.25/hr to be there.

Just another dramatic and very big win for the Aztecs last night beating New Mexico in the home court known for good reason as "THE PIT", including their 18,000 screaming fans. NM was 15-2 going into the game and had beaten a lot of really good teams. They have been considered to be a better team than the Aztecs. NM jumped out to a 10-0 lead quickly but State came roaring back to beat then 75-70, at one point outscoring them 62-39 over 30 minutes and with a 15-0 run. Following their last win over a very highly regarding UNLV the Aztecs seem certain to climb above their current number 16 ranking. And this is a rebuilding year!
GO AZTECS.

Also, back in the 50's, being caught with 'Mary Jane' could get you 2-5 in the pen. Not a good choice.
Booze was the choice and many a bar fight occurred because of alcohol in Palm City, IB, San Ysidro and Chula Vista. For the most part and unlike today, the fights were at least fair.

Yes Bud Milke was the basketball coach and did some other sports too till the end of 63 I think. He was over at Castle Park the next year when they had "Rip" Barret, so called for the sound of the ball swishing through the next on many of his shots.
They were a new school and battled MV with all of Milke ex-players for the Metro League title. I remember my brother holding Barret to 2 points in a classic match up between the schools that year.
Guys from MV around that time have some great "Milke stories". I remember him telling me and Vic '64', when we showed up hung over one time, that we were "dissipating."
It was like having King Kong bend over and look you in the eye and then say a fancy word. And then all you can say is "yes sir Mr. Kong."

I hate the Broncos.. and I hate TEBOW even more. Not that I like the Steelers.. but I'm hoping the Steelers kill Tebow and the Broncos.
But.. nothing is going my way this year.. sigh.

I've thought for a long time that it should be called the HALL OF REALLY GOOD PLAYERS.
It's kind of like the Heisman Trophy, lots of politics involved.

SDUT is saying Barry Larkin leading candidate for Hall of Fame. I do not think Larkin rises to that level. Good yes but no Hall of Famer. I do however think when the time comes that Jorge Posada should be selected.

I've never seen or even heard of a defensive line trying to stop hot or cold butter.
I would think the guys would be slipping and falling all over the place. Now margarine..that's another story!

why didn't you say that they couldn't stop hot butter from penetrating? Hot butter would penetrate easier than cold butter on a cold day.

Ya know how easy hot butter penetrates. Just like our d line is so porous that it couldn't even stop cold butter from penetrating

You can tell that from his lousy record of picking the winners each week. The other writer in the UT destroyed him. That O line was the main reason we lost 6 in a row. Rivers couldn't stay on his feet long enough to find a receiver. AND that defensive line couldn't stop butter on a cold day. As far as de-backs Jammer should have already been a strong safety. Weddle and Jammer might make a pretty good team back there.

Don't know if he was captain but he was surely looked at as a team leader. And we all saw him sitting on the bench feeling sorry for himself during the playoffs.

Good thought Dave. I agree.
Hacksaw, he of the very large ego and mouth, said today that he had received something like 80 e-mails and phone calls from people saying they are not going to renew their season tickets.
I don't believe even 10 of them will actually do it.
Reasons:
1. They are football fans and they are used to going to games on Sunday.
2. They won't take a chance on losing their seats that they have had and are used to.
3. They won't take the chance that the team just might be good next year and, if so, they won't have good seats and will have to compete for seats.

Was LT a captain on the Chargers' offense?
Thu 05 Jan 2012 08:25:51

From LT who sat and sulked on the bench ' as 'HIS" team was losing playoff games.
"I'll tell you what, it's tough for guys to follow a captain that kind of behaves in that manner. You're a captain, guys looking at you. You've got to lead by example," Tomlinson said of Holmes after that game. "You've got to play your tail off until the last play. And when that doesn't happen, you will have guys look at you in the way that captains shouldn't be looked at. You should always put yourself out there as a leader."

I truly don't think Norv could lead the Green Bay Packers to a championship. Reminds me of an old stor--when some mentioned to one of the movie moguls that RR was running for Pre. THe replied RR for best friend but Jimmy Stewart for Pres. That applies to Norv. Norv for offensive coordinator but any one else for Head coach.

Great post! It echoes many of my own sentiments. I'm sure even Spanos knows these guys won't bring us a Lombardi Trophy. Keeping them will save him a few million bucks, though. It's a sound business decision for an owner not interested in winning championships.

OMG!!! Norv is staying??? I put Norv in the same category as say Michael Vick. Everybody gets all excited with what they do during the regular season(not this year of course)..but they both have the same history when it comes to crunch time. They both fold like so much origami. Then the excuses start...Injuries? Every team has injuries. We just didn't play well today. Damn I hate that one..if you're the head coach it's your responsibility to make sure your team is ready to play every week!!!! When I hear that a team LIKES the coach I begin to worry. Do you think Vince Lombardi cared if the Packers liked him..hell no! He was in Green Bay for only one reason...to WIN!!! It's amazing how coaches keep their jobs. OR they immediately get hired by another team. They just get recycled with the same result. Does ANYONE actually think Norv can lead the bolt's to the promise land. I think not!!!

Yah know.. I was angry with the Norv hire... but I'm also very nervous about what we might get with someone else.
For the last 3 years there have been some freakish things that have happened every year... injuries... the special teams meltdown... the a patched up offensive and defensive line and Rivers turning into Ryan Leaf for 6 games.. on and on.
What I'm getting at.. I think I could live with Norv getting one more year just to see what he could do with a team that didn't spring a huge leak some where.
I don't know....
BUT!!!.. the Defensive Coordinator has to go.. no and,s, if's or but's!!

It's going to be an interesting week this week. Most likely there will be major changes made some time this week by the owner.
Most observers believe the head coach and the defensive coach will be fired... with the possibility that the General Manager might be also...

Even as lame as the Chargers have played this year, I think they are still the best representative from the AFC West.
But of course they aren't going... so it's a moot point.
