'52 Tom McKay  Tom is well known in the boxing community in Texas as a trainer and official. He is mostly renowned for his boxing and full-contact karate training skills. Since 1963 Mckay has coached at San Juan, Carolina, Fort Bliss, and his own Eastside Boxing Gym. He has also judged and refereed State and National events as well as being a Golden Gloves Tournament Director.

10 Regional Championship teams. In 1967, Tom and the late coach, Sammy Burke, helped open the San Diego Sports Arena by bringing a hurriedly put together team to compete in the AAU National Championships. It was a sweet homecoming success as team member, Earl Large ,119, took the Gold Medal in his division and Mike Ortiz, 132 and barely experienced, grabbed Bronze by fighting to the semi-finals. And his offspring, Mike and Les McKay, were undefeated boxers.

McKay is especially proud to have worked with Five-Time PKA Karate World Champion, Cliff 'Magic' Thomas and with the eccentric and wild heavyweight contender,
Randall "Tex" Cobb, somewhat of an actor. And finally, McKay was inducted into The El Paso Boxing/Karate Hall Of Fame in 1997.

Richard Chase, a famous San Francisco band musician, cut his musical teeth at The Studio, 204 Palm Ave. in Imperial Beach., with  Freddie Silvers and the amazing WIFF.  Later, after school some time, he moved to San Francisco and became part of a band called "Flying Color".  An Internet audio trivia page describes it this way;  "San Fransico's Flying Color was a band that deserved to be famous. With three quality songwriters (Richard Chase, Dale Duncan, and Hector Penalosa) and equally great material that recalled Badfinger, Dwight Twilley, and an earlier Bay Area band, the Flamin' Groovies, they seemed destined for major label stardom during the late '80s. Choice cuts on their debut album Flying Color (Frontier, 1987) include Chase's "I'm Your Shadow", Duncan's "Dear Friend", and Penalosa's "Wise to Her Ways". Shortly after the release of the album, Richard Chase left the band, replaced by a young songwriter from New York state named Chris von Sneidern. Flying Color later recorded demos for a second album, but the band fell apart during the lengthy sessions and subsequently broke up.

'65 Bob Taylor Bob has been in a wheelchair since the tenth grade. He got hurt racing motorcycles out in Mission Gorge. Since then he's raced cars, boats and go carts.  He goes to Daytona speedway frequently and since the in-field is almost 3/4 of a mile long he needed something to get around in.  He built a wheelchair powered by a 100cc Suzuki, 4-speed, caliper brakes with knobby tires, it will out run a 100cc Yammy for a quarter mile. He took it to the drags in Tampa and they put it in the 100cc and under class.  Before it broke a chain  it won six weeks in a row . The owner of the drag strip said he checked around and he never heard of a wheelchair doing ETt's around 18:50.  So, for the rest of the runs they promoted it as the "THE WORLDS FASTEST WHEELCHAIR".
